If you are anything like me, you will love PowerTunes. The reason for this is that I have an iTunes library with tens of thousands of songs that started about a decade ago from ripped CDs. This library has been moved from computer to computer. As a result of this it has built up a lot of crud: orphan files that were removed from the library but never removed, duplicate files thanks to compilations or CDDB errors upon re-rip. Or maybe you have multiple libraries with overlapping content for when you tried to manage everything manually and keep the mp3s separate from the higher quality music as I did? After years of neglect, trying to fix these problems is one of those, 'I'll do it before I backup, or when I am procrastinating from real work' situations. You might get through a few hundred tracks, but never really finish. If this sounds familiar, then read on, for the answer to your mess…

Enter PowerTunes to help make the most of your time and fix your neglected iTunes library. To put it simply, PowerTunes is a great complement to other iTunes library utilities (such as TuneSpan). While TuneSpan allows you to move files already in your library, PowerTunes allows you to do other things very well. Its features are vast compared to most other library management utilities:

PowerTunes allows you to move your entire iTunes Media folder to another drive without breaking all of the links in the library. (TuneSpan allows partial or complete moves which is much more powerful, but similarities between the two end with moving files.) This alone might be worth it if you have invested hours upon hours adding metadata that is only stored in the iTunes Library file: play counts and ratings, being the biggest concern for me. However, the main reason I tried PowerTunes, was its ability to do clean up my library. Ubar 4 0 5 – the dock replacement kit. This is accomplished through the next 2 killer features:

'Find Orphans…' Find allows you to clean up your iTunes library by finding orphan files: files that are in your iTunes Media folder, but not in your library. With one click you can either add selected files to the iTunes Library or trash them for good.

'Fix Dead Tracks…' not only find tracks that iTunes can no longer find, but also searches your system for possible matches, and returns a list of tracks that might be the missing track. Microsoft office 2016 15 40 – popular productivity suite 2000. Again, selecting which track it the right one and relinking it is as simple as selecting it from the list and choosing whether to move the file into the media library and putting it where it should be or changing the link in iTunes' Library. This level of logical flexibility with these two big features are what makes me think that the word 'Power' in its name is synonymous with 'Flexible.' As I always say, 'Options are a good thing.'

However, sometimes you might just need to manage the entire library files. PowerTunes proves to be one of the most competent iTunes Library managers I have ever used. The library functions. You can find, add, duplicate, remove, merge or find other iTunes Libraries on your system. Again this wealth or choice is why I love this app. When I was using it during that marathon 36 hour session of re-ripping, retagging and cleaning session, I told a friend, 'I wish I had this app years ago.' I also might have said that PowerTunes was the iTunes management app I had been wishing or waiting for. I kid you not.

Not only that, you can add album artwork to each audio file, which some apps charge about the price of this app just for that one feature. Of course, there are limitations to this that other album artwork apps do not have, but if at least one track in the album has the cover art, one click will save a lot of time if you had to add album art on without this feature.

However, one that I know many will miss is being able to lookup and embed lyrics. Unfortunately, entire industries are kept afloat by revenue generated by rights to publishing lyrics, and a click and download solution could devastate it. Firetask 3 0 3 – innovative task management solution. (If you notice most of the current lyrics download and insert tools are commercial, and if they aren't, they are often inaccurate or not as comprehensive as commercial applications. The reason for this is that some of the money you pay for lyric lookup software sales is paid to the music publishing industry for the rights to allow this.)

My review probably is not as exhaustive, or in-depth as it could be, but PowerTunes did a ton of work over a weekend during a period where I only had a few days to clean and replicate a library. All in all I probably accomplished over 30 hours worth of work in about 6 hours. This time includes getting familiar with the app and combining and juggling over 400GB of music over Firewire 400 and finally making a working backup on another drive of the end results. What is great about this app is that it is free to try, and I definitely owe the developer the $20 registration fee. Not once during my ~6 hours of use did PowerTunes balk and get in my way about registration. The software is definitely worth the money. So, not nagging you or hobbling the software is a classy move, not many developers have the guts (or financial security) to do that.

If you care about the state of your iTunes Library, try PowerTunes, and you will probably agree it is well worth the shareware price.

Albums deleted from server still show in app
I am running Mimimserver on a synology NAS. I have several hundred albums. I have deleted some albums from the server, but they keep on showing in my App (Marantz). I rebooted everything, but the problem remains. Now (after one day) albums still show as folders, but without thumbnails. When I open them in the app, it says it has been deleted.
How do I get rid of deleted albums showing in my app.
Can I manually delete the Mimimserver cache files on the server, or will it cause a problem?
Hope someone can help

No worries - I found a way.
I opened Minimserver on Synology nas and I reset the folder path for the music files and rescanned. Worked fine!

Just rescanning should fix this issue.

I tried rescanning, but it did not work. Also my previous report that I found a way only worked the first time. I have endless problems if I delete folders. Thsy do not show with my file manager, but somehow they still show in my minimserver. I've tried rescanning, rebooting, I've now out of desperation uninstalled Minimserver with the intention to re-install. Now it does not want to re-install - it says the port is occupied.

I think I finally found the problem. It is not with Minimserver, but with Synology Diskstation - it keeps the deleted files 'Hidden' in a #recycle folder, which is still visible to Minimserver. If I delete the files from #Recycle and rescan Minimserver it works!

Another option would be to change your contentDir setting so it doesn't include the #recycled folder.

RE: Albums deleted from server still show in app
Hi reonb, hope you don't mind me 'piggy-backing' onto your thread, since I am facing a similar problem.
I am running MinimServer on a Synology DS213, with iTunes on a Mac, and using the Lumin app (iPad) / Kinsky (Mac) with the Lumin player.
a) There are a number of duplicate albums and tracks on the Lumin/Kinsky apps, which I am unable to delete. On iTunes, there are no duplicates. Deleting and re-ripping the album seems to work for some albums but not for others.
b) There are some albums which were 'lost' in the process of transferring my library from the Mac to the NAS using Tunespan. Certain albums do not appear at all on iTunes or on the Lumin/Kinsky app. For other albums, only remnants remain (numerous missing tracks).
c) When I re-rip the missing/incomplete album, the album (complete and without any duplicate) appears on iTunes but, for some reason, duplicate albums would now appear on the Lumin/Kinsky app, one with the album art (which I re-ripped) and the other, without (the one that was 'lost').

reonb, you mentioned that the above worked. How do I access/make visible the #recyle folder please? It is not displayed on the Mac OS Finder. Searching through the Synology folder directories draws up a blank too.

simoncn, how do I do this please?
Many thanks.

Just create a folder in your NAS called 'Music', move your music (sub)folders into there and point Minimserver to pick up just this directory 'Music' in the 'contentDir' setting.
When you now delete music from within that folder, it will no longer get picked up by MinimServer

Thanks. This is what I had previously done (which appears to be consistent with what you have suggested):
- created a folder called 'Music' in my NAS (2 disk)
- iTunes Media Folder location is pointed to '/Volumes/Music'
- under the MinimServer status webpage, selected the content directory as '/volume1/Music' (selecting '/Volumes/Music' (same directory as iTunes Media Folder) resulted in the following message: 'Content directory is not valid: /Volumes/Music')
- the music library on the Mac was moved to the 'Music' folder in the NAS using TuneSpan.
I manage and tag the library using iTunes.
Scenario 1 - re-ripping an incomplete album
When I delete an incomplete album from the iTunes library (dragging it to the Trash can), I select the option to trash it completely instead of retaining the media files. The album no longer is seen in the iTunes folder and the Lumin/Kinsky apps.
The album is ripped again using iTunes. On iTunes, only one album is displayed but there are duplicate albums on the Lumin/Kinsky apps.
Scenario 2 - ripping a 'missing' album
Here, the album is missing from the iTunes library (or was 'lost' when migrating my music library from the Mac to the NAS), and is also not displayed in the Lumin/Kinsky apps. It is also not in the 'Music' folder in the NAS.
The album is ripped again using iTunes. Only one album is shown on iTunes but there are duplicate albums on the Lumin/Kinsky apps.
In both scenarios, when I go into the Synology File Station page to inspect the Music folder and look at the sub-folder for the album, there are no duplicate tracks or albums. So, I do not understand why there are duplicate albums shown in the the Lumin/Kinsky apps.
Am I missing a step somewhere?

RE: Albums deleted from server still show in app
I just discovered another baffling situation when looking at the sub-folder for the duplicate albums under the 'Music' folder in the NAS.
In addition to the tracks for the album, there is a rogue sub-folder (which may be named after a track in the album or be unrelated) with random tracks culled from other albums in the music library. These rogue random tracks do not show up on iTunes or the Lumin/Kinsky apps.
For example, under Music/Pet Shop Boys/Discography/, all the tracks in the album will be listed - all is good. However, under Music/Pet Shop Boys/Discography/So Hard/, there will be random tracks from other albums listed in the 'So Hard' sub-folder (which takes its name from a track in the Discography album).
I then trace the tracks to another album in the music library (in this case, Barbra Streisand: Love is the Answer), but there are no tracks missing from the Barbra Streisand album.
This is so odd..
